Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo expects his former club Manchester United to become Premier League champions at the end of this season.
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner, who was in London on Monday night for the premiere of his new film, believes Louis van Gaal is doing a fine job at Old Trafford and hopes to see the Red Devils lift the Premier League trophy for the first time since 2013 next May.
United are currently fourth in the table, two points behind leaders Manchester City, after 12 matches played. They haven’t earned many plaudits for their style of play - which, at times, has been a little on the dull side - but they have only lost two matches so far this term while no team has conceded fewer goals.

“He [Van Gaal] is doing a good job at Manchester United especially this year,” Ronaldo was quoted as saying by The Sun.
“As people know, Manchester United is a club I support and I like it — so what I expect is that Manchester United can be champions this year. This is my wish.”
Man Utd are not scoring enough goals
Although their defence has been solid this season, it’s important to note than Manchester United have only scored 17 goals - a lower tally than the likes of Tottenham, West Ham, Southampton and Everton amongst other Premier League clubs.
Manchester United fans have urged Van Gaal’s side to “attack, attack, attack” in recent weeks, and in order to finish the season as Premier League champions one suspects they’ll need to become far more clinical inside the final third of the pitch.
United are third favourites to win the title
As it stands, Manchester City are currently the favourites to win the league title, followed by Arsenal and then United.
Tottenham are the fourth favourites, Liverpool are next in line, while you can now get 100/1 on Chelsea finishing the season as champions with leading bookmaker Paddy Power.
