The next round of matches in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament have taken place during the SmackDown tapings, and it has provided one shocking result in particular.

As you may already know, five stars advanced to the quarter-final stages of the tournament after winning on Monday Night Raw.

Roman Reigns advanced after defeating The Big Show, Kevin Owens advanced after defeating Titus O'Neill, Dean Ambrose advanced after defeating Tyler Breeze, Dolph Ziggler advanced after defeating The Miz, and Cesaro advanced after defeating Sheamus.

According to Cageside Seats, three more superstars have won themselves a place in the next round. Alberto Del Rio defeated Stardust to advance in the tournament, Neville defeated King Barrett, and most surprisingly, Kalisto defeated Ryback to advance to the quarter-finals.

The most surprising result is the last one because no one would have expected Kalisto to defeat Ryback. This may have happened due to the recent push The Lucha Dragons have been receiving, and having Kalisto win is another way which the WWE is trying to push the tag team towards an eventual tag team championship victory.

It's also odd because, from what I have heard him say on the Stone Cold podcast, Ryback's contract with the WWE expires in 2016. Hopefully, this isn't the start of a losing streak for The Big Guy before a possible exit from the company. The match and how it unfolded towards a Kalisto victory will be explained on Thursday night when SmackDown is aired.

With these matches now in the bag, the quarter-finals in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament have been set. They are, Roman Reigns vs. Cesaro, Kalisto vs. Alberto Del Rio, Kevin Owens vs. Neville, and Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose.
