Andres Iniesta produces shocking miss in Spain training session

Football News

Barcelona superstar Andres Iniesta is unquestionably one of the greatest players of his generation, which is why this gilt-edged miss in Spain’s latest training session will surprise every football fan.

The 31-year-old, who was training ahead of Friday’s international friendly against England, was teed-up by Diego Costa for what should have been a simple tap-in.

However, instead of rolling the ball into the empty net, Iniesta somehow hit the post from a yard out. (Scroll down this page to see the video).

Costa presumably opted against sticking the ball into the net himself because he’d already taken too many touches.

And yes, the goals were small-sized, but that doesn’t excuse a player of Iniesta’s calibre from missing the target from that distance. Vicente del Bosque could have rolled that one in.

Andres Iniesta could be in decline

Iniesta is still a master of his trade, but it does appear that the World Cup winner peaked a few years ago.

At one point last season, the technically-gifted midfielder had gone almost an entire year without scoring a goal or providing an assist for Barcelona in La Liga - a remarkable statistic.

Iniesta has not scored or assisted a goal for Barça so far this term, either, and the Spaniard could find himself gradually eased out of the starting line-up once Arda Turan becomes eligible to play in January.

It would be fantastic to see Iniesta rediscover his best form - at his peak he was unstoppable - but if he doesn’t Barcelona fans will still always regard the midfielder as a genuine club legend.
