Nick Saban likely to be on list to replace Pagano as Colts head coach

The Indianapolis Colts began the season as many people's tips to win Super Bowl L, but, 10 weeks into the campaign, thing have not gone according to plan.

Having stumbled to a 4-5 record and fired their offensive coordinator, head coach Chuck Pagano's future at the AFC South franchise is coming under increasing scrutiny.

Man in mind

And, according to one Colts beat writer, it appears that team owner Jim Irsay already has his eyes on the higher echelons of the college game should he show Pagano the exit door at the end of the current campaign.

According to Bob Kravitz, speaking on Mad Dog Sports Radio, Irsay is fast losing faith in Pagano as a man who can bring "multiple" Super Bowls to the franchise during the Andrew Luck era.

The man Kravitz believes Irsay wants in to get the job done? Current Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

“If he (Irsay) brings in a guy who demands full power, like, say, a Nick Saban, who I think he’s going to go after, if he brings in a Nick Saban, he’s going to have full power and that means that Ryan Grigson will either be kicked to the curb or he’ll have a different role in the organization.”

Having led the Crimson Tide to three national titles (plus one with LSU back in 2003), there is no doubt that Saban knows how to win at the college level.

Whether he is willing to leave behind his relatively safe spot at Alabama for another shot at a NFL head coaching gig remains to be seen, however.

That being said, having left the Miami Dolphins with a less-than-impressive 15-17 record in 2006 after two seasons in charge, the lure of an NFL franchise complete with franchise quarterback may be too good to turn down.
