England supporters have slammed Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana on Twitter after his disappointing display in the first half of tonight’s international friendly against Spain.

The 27-year-old struggled inside the opening half hour of the match, in particular, and England fans sat at home showed him no mercy online.

Spain dominated possession during the first half at the Estadio José Rico Pérez in Alicante and, in truth, Lallana isn’t particularly well-suited to a backs-to-the-wall type of match.

Spain were always likely to have the lion’s share of possession and Hodgson might have been better off playing Jonjo Shelvey, a more industrious player, in midfield instead.

Lallana has also struggled at Liverpool

Lallana’s club form hasn’t been particularly great this season, either. In fact, Liverpool fans might argue that they’ve only seen glimpses of the playmaker at his best since he completed his £25 million move from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

The technically-gifted midfielder is undoubtedly a classy operator, but the step up to Liverpool has been a major challenge for the former Saints star.
