Jurgen Klopp hands Jose Enrique a chance to resurrect Liverpool career

Jose Enrique has been handed a surprise opportunity to resurrect his Liverpool career by manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Spanish full-back, whose last game for the Reds was against Bolton Wanderers in January, looked set to leave Anfield at the end of the summer transfer window after being frozen out and ordered to train alone by Brendan Rodgers.

However, the Daily Mail’s Merseyside football reporter Dominic King understands Enrique will be integrated back into the main group once he returns from injury.

The 29-year-old, who joined the Reds from Newcastle United in 2011, has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since Klopp replaced Rodgers at the start of October.

The German coach might be prepared to give Enrique another opportunity after Joe Gomez was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury last month.

However, Enrique may still struggle for minutes due to the impressive recent form of Alberto Moreno, who has re-established himself as the club’s first-choice left-back following Gomez’s injury.

Enrique is not very popular at Anfield

In a bid to get his career back on track, Enrique deleted both his Twitter and Instagram accounts in the early weeks of the season - shortly after revealing that, despite reports to the contrary, he had received no offers from West Brom.

But former Liverpool full-back John Arne Riise may have summed up the mood amongst the Anfield faithful by admitting on Twitter that he hopes the defender wouldn’t be handed another opportunity by Klopp.

A perfectly capable left-back on his day, though, Enrique could prove a few of his doubters wrong over the forthcoming months.
