This is according to the Daily Mail, who claim United officials will be encouraged by new comments made by Neymar’s dad to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.
“We are receiving attacks from the Spanish tax authorities,” Neymar Snr revealed on air. “If we cannot work in Spain we will have to leave.”

Manchester United made moves to sign Neymar in the summer - this was confirmed by the player’s father last month - but Barcelona, for understandable reasons, have no desire to sell the Brazilian sensation.
The Catalan giants are desperate to tie Neymar down to a new long-term deal after the 23-year-old played a pivotal role in helping the club secure another historic treble last season, but the accusations made by the Spanish tax authorities has created an uncomfortable situation for the world-class forward.
Worrying for Barcelona
Both the Spanish and Brazilian tax authorities are claiming outstanding payments for the tax years 2011-2013, accusing the player of not paying £10.5 million in taxes during those years.
“We are talking about the renewal but we are a bit concerned about other outstanding matters,” Neymar Snr added. “We cannot continue with this uncertainty over the tax situation.
“We do not know if we are doing things the right way or not. We are receiving a lot of attacks in Spain and Brazil and it is difficult. I don’t want to use the word “persecution” but if we don’t have a comfortable situation to work in we will not stay in Spain.
“If we are causing problems we will not be able to stay.”
Man Utd would be Neymar's likely destination
If Neymar and his father decide it’s in their best interests to leave Spain, Manchester United would be the most likely destination for the South American.
The Guardian reported earlier this season that Neymar was open to the idea of joining the Red Devils, who have a long-term strategy in place to make the deal happen.
Arguably the third best player in the world, Neymar would be a magnificent signing for any club - including Manchester United - but Barcelona won’t let him leave the Camp Nou without a fight.
