Chelsea summer signing Papy Djilobodji could now leave the club in the January transfer window.

This has been reported by the Mirror, who claim that the 26-year-old will complete a move away from west London sooner rather than later.

Djilobodji was brought in as an alternative to John Stones late last summer, but the former Nantes man has failed to hit the ground running on English soil.

Since his arrival, the versatile defender has played just one minute of first-team football under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, so it's not entirely surprising that he's already being linked with a move away from the club.

However, with Djilobodji seemingly set to leave Chelsea, there's no guarantee that the club will finally secure the services of England international Stones. In fact, the Mirror suggest that the Blues are already worried that Everton will reject their advances for the talented defender once again.

Chelsea must act

But, Mourinho and Co. will be well aware that the club must act in the January transfer window. Currently sitting in 16th place in England's elite division, the west London outfit have endured a torrid start to the season.

The Blues must improve sooner rather than later and they can't afford to rest on their laurels in the New Year. The signing of Stones would be a start, but the club are in need of more than just the Everton man to turn things around.

As well as signings, the Chelsea chief must find a way of bringing the best out of his under-performing stars. Too many players at Stamford Bridge are failing to produce the goods and they must find consistency in pursuit of redemption. One thing is for sure, the Blues can't afford to drop points against Norwich City this weekend.
