Liverpool fans have quickly taken to social media following Jurgen Klopp's latest remarks about former Reds captain Steven Gerrard.

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Manchester City, Klopp has revealed in his press conference that Gerrard is welcome to use the club's training facilities at Melwood before he returns to LA.

“If Gerrard wants to train here, of course he can. There is no question. He can use Melwood [to train] before he goes back to LA,” Klopp told reporters.

Gerrard departed Merseyside at the end of last season, but it appears that he could yet train with the club in the coming weeks.

Despite previous suggestions that the veteran midfielder could return to the club on loan, it appears that he won't be turning out on the Anfield pitch anytime soon.

But, unsurprisingly, that hasn't stopped the Liverpool faithful asking the club to re-sign their beloved hero.

No going back

Ultimately, though, Gerrard's Liverpool fairytale should remain in the past. The 35-year-old left Anfield behind at the right time and Klopp must now start a new era on Merseyside.

Jordan Henderson - Gerrard's successor as Liverpool skipper - has the attributes to lead the team forward over the coming months and years, so the Kop should get behind their new leader. The Reds faithful will certainly be hoping to see Henderson return to the pitch sooner rather than later.

One thing is for sure, Klopp will be on the lookout for more away-day joy this weekend as the Reds travel to Manchester to take on the league leaders.
