With the January transfer window inching ever closer, rumours and speculation are beginning to gather pace. And the latest story to come off the transfer carousel involves Arsenal and Liverpool.

talkSPORT, via our good friends 'reports in Germany', are suggesting that Borussia Dortmund are willing to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to either the Gunners or the Reds for the price of £42 million.

The Gabon international has scored 43 Bundesliga goals in just 77 Bundesliga appearances since moving to the Westfalenstadion and his next stop could be the Emirates or Anfield if either club coughs up BVB's asking price.

However, the report also claims Barcelona are keen on the former AS Saint-Etienne man and are the front-runners for his signature.

Dortmund are a team on the rise following a poor 2014-15 season under Jurgen Klopp and currently sit second in the Bundesliga. However, they have been known to part with their big-name stars for one reason or another in recent years.

It's easy to see why the Catalan club are favourites to sign Aubameyang given their standing in world football. But offers from the Premier League will surely excite the 26-year-old.

Arsene Wenger has a team crammed full of attacking quality, but they are short on strikers. The Dortmund forward's record speaks for itself and he would be a huge asset for the Gunners in their battle for the title.

Liverpool, meanwhile, can call on Klopp - the man who signed Aubameyang for Dortmund - to help entice him to Anfield. However, they cannot offer Champions League football like Arsenal and Barcelona. Well, maybe not the Gunners.
