Jamie Vardy could equal Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record for scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League matches this weekend - and the former Manchester United striker has wished the in-form Leicester City forward good luck on Instagram today.
Van Nistelrooy set the record over the course of two different seasons in 2003, scoring against the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal. (Scroll down this page to see his Instagram message).
Vardy, meanwhile, moved on to nine goals in consecutive Premier League matches with a penalty against Watford before the international break. The 28-year-old will make it 10 in 10 if he finds the back of the net against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday - although he is doubtful for this weekend’s match because of injury.

An untimely hip problem meant Vardy missed both of England’s friendlies against Spain and France - Roy Hodgson had planned to give the live-wire striker a run-out in Alicante last Friday - but he is in contention to start against Steve McClaren’s side tomorrow.
However, even if injury prohibits him from featuring in the Newcastle match, Vardy will have another opportunity to break the record in Leicester’s next match against Manchester United at the King Power Stadium on November 28.
Van Nistelrooy's message for Vardy
Van Nistelrooy posted a photo of him celebrating his 10th consecutive goal against Newcastle in 2003, alongside the caption: "#Records are there to be broken.. Go on @vardy7, all the best and good luck!"
United fans might be hoping Vardy doesn't score
Incidentally, Manchester United have been linked with a move to Vardy during the past week.
The Daily Star reported that Louis van Gaal was plotting a shock £15 million move for the former non-league ace - click HERE to see how fans of the Red Devils reacted to that news.
While it would obviously be a fantastic achievement if Vardy is to equal Van Nistelrooy’s record this weekend, many United fans will be hoping he fails to score so that their hero’s record remain intact.
