Manchester United are in the midst of an injury crisis going in to their showdown against Watford this afternoon, with no less than six members of the senior squad out through injury.
The latest name to be added to their growing list of absentees was Anthony Martial, who picked up a knock in England's 2-0 friendly win against France at Wembley in mid-week. Michael Carrick also limped out of that game, while Wayne Rooney is another absentee.
Marouane Fellaini remains sidelined, as does Luke Shaw, while Antonio Valencia recently underwent foot surgery and will be out for some time.
The injury list has caused a 'big problem' for Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, who has been forced to name youngster Marcus Rashford on his bench as cover as back-up to a make shift team.
“I think that everybody knows Michael Carrick and Anthony Martial are injured, but also injured is Marouane Fellaini," the Dutch boss said before the game. "That's a surprise because I thought he was recovered after the international break, but still he is injured. And that's a big blow because Rooney is ill, so we have a big problem, I think.”
It wasn't just Rashford's inclusion on the bench that raised a few eyebrows - it was the other names alongside him too.
The Red Devils have splashed more than £150 million in the past two summer transfer windows on a host of big-name signings, however the list of back-ups on the bench at Vicarige Road left a lot to be desired - and Manchester United fans certainly let their feelings be known.
Manchester United will have the chance to jump to the top of the table with a win in today's early kick-off, albeit it temporarily as Manchester United, Arsenal and Leicester are all in action later on this weekend.
