Liverpool were on top form on Saturday evening as they annihilated Manchester City 4-1 at the Etihad.

Strikes from Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Martin Skrtel - along with an Elaquim Mangala own goal gave the Reds a stunning victory.

And Anfield legend Steven Gerrard was among the thousands of Liverpool fans who thoroughly enjoyed the performance put on by Jurgen Klopp's men.

The LA Galaxy midfielder showed his appreciation at their stunning performance on Instagram.

He posted a picture of the players celebrating along with the caption: Loved every minute of that boys 🔥😁👍

The image has received over 192,000 likes and more than 2,000 comments, with many fans suggesting it would have been even better had Gerrard still been a Red.

He was not the only person to send their support to Liverpool with injured duo Jordan Henderson and Mamadou Sakho getting in on the act.

Jurgen Klopp's high pressing style worked a treat for the Reds as they stunned Manuel Pellegrini's side.

Despite giving up 59% of possession, the Reds produced the perfect counter attacking performance and left Manchester with a deserved three points.

The improvement in Liverpool's play was clear for all to see and Klopp's philosophies are starting to set in.

The linkup play between Coutinho and Firmino was, at times, incredible and it was easily the summer signings' best performance in a red shirt.

Liverpool's next Premier League game is a home tie with Swansea City and the Merseyside outfit will be looking to make amends for their loss to Crystal Palace before the international break.
