The LA Galaxy midfielder will be playing for the official Liverpool legends team against an Australian legends side at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

And the former England international has taken to Instagram to express his excitement at playing in front of Liverpool's passionate Australian fans.

Speaking to the club's official website, Gerrard also said: “It will be great to play with the official Liverpool FC Legends.

"The squad looks like it’s a great set of lads, it’ll be good to get on the pitch with them. Our fans are the best and to play in front of them again will be emotional, I’m sure.”

Liverpool have a huge fan base in Australia. Their pre-season friendly at the MCG in 2013 was watched by a sell-out crowd of 95,000.

The AMZ holds 85,000 and is sure to be packed with Liverpool fans keen to see some of their heroes take to the field.

It will be Gerrard's first game in a Liverpool kit since the 6-1 loss to Stoke City on the final day of last season.

While it will not compare to playing for the Reds in the Premier League at Anfield, he is sure to get a rousing reception from the fans.
