Johnny Manziel demoted to Cleveland Browns third string quarterback

Things looked like they were finally turning around for Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel.

The much-troubled former Heisman winner had a terrible start to his NFL career; partying too much as a rookie and not bothering to learn the Browns playbook costing him dearly. Things were looking good, though, as he was named the Browns starting QB for the rest of this 2015 season.

Manziel Dropped

However, Manziel is now back at square one after he was sensationally demoted by Mike Pettine and the rest of the Cleveland Browns coaching staff.

A compromising video apparently showing Manziel partying during his weekend off surfaced online yesterday, and the Browns weren't happy with it. They were so annoyed in fact, that they have made the former Texas A&M star their third-string quarterback for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

From the Browns official website:

"Veteran Josh McCown will start at quarterback and Johnny Manziel will serve as the third option moving forward, Browns coach Mike Pettine announced Tuesday," they announced in a statement.

"“Josh McCown will be the starting quarterback on Monday night against the Ravens. I informed the quarterbacks of that decision after I sat down and spoke with Johnny, Flip (John DeFilippo) and Kevin (O’Connell) after practice today. Johnny will be the third quarterback. I’ve spoken to Ray (Farmer) and Jimmy (Haslam) to inform them of my decision, and they are in full support," Pettine added.

The head coach went on to add that everyone at the Browns want what is best for Manziel, that he is disappointed in his actions and that he has to learn what it takes to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Popping bottles in a club is not one of them.

If Manziel is going to act like a teenager, even now, then maybe the Browns are doing the right thing by treating him like one and pushing him down the depth chart. Hopefully something clicks and Manziel can finally mature, because this just might be his last chance.
