St. Louis Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey is currently in a critical but stable condition in hospital following a shooting on Tuesday evening in Miami Gardens.

It is understood Bailey was sat in a car in the gardens with his cousin - who was at the wheel of the vehicle - and two small children, who were in the back.

Bailey's cousin was shot several times whilst shielding the children from gunfire, this has left him in a life-threatening situation in the hospital.

Several reports coming out of Miami have said Bailey was hit twice in the head, and once in the hip, this has left him in a critical but stable condition after initial fears the head wound sustained was life threatening.

The identity and motive of the shooter are currently unknown, the local police are gathering evidence from the scene and speaking to people close to the incident, but currently all that has been reported from the incident is Stedman Bailey, his cousin, and two young family members were sat in a car in Miami Gardens when a car pulled up alongside and began shooting.

Bailey was not due to play for the Rams this weekend as he is currently serving a four-game NFL ban for substance abuse, but the St. Louis Rams released a statement shortly after the incident.

It read: "We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening.

"He is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more."

As it stands no update or further statement has been released by the Rams.
