Brazil captain Neymar has revealed that Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi is his number one player in the world.

As reported by the Mirror, Neymar, who was speaking at last night's La Liga awards, has suggested that he expects Messi to secure the Ballon d'Or award in January.

Suarez enjoyed a wonderful year as Luis Enrique's side secured the treble, but the Uruguayan international failed to secure himself a place in this year's final three for the prestigious award.

Neymar has insisted that 'friendship and modesty' has helped him star alongside Messi and Suarez at the Nou Camp.

The forward stated: "Suarez should have been there too, but Messi is favourite, he's the number one for me.

"Secret of MSN? Friendship and modesty. Leo and Luis are great friends, I hope to play with them for a long time, there are no egos."

Becoming the best

Slowly but surely, Neymar is coming to the forefront of world football. The dynamic forward certainly deserves his place on this list and his achievements shouldn't be underestimated. He's no longer in  the shadow of Messi and may well secure the Ballon d'Or award in the coming years.

It won't be easy for him to secure the prize in January, but his time will come. With 14 goals in 12 league games this season, Neymar is currently the leading scorer in La Liga, but can he continue to shine throughout the course of the season?

He's not quite the finished article, but he has to be admired in his pursuit of proving his credentials on the elite stage.
