Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could make a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic, according to Bild.

The report claims that the charismatic coach is a big fan of the Serbian international and isn't entirely happy with his back-line at Anfield.

Klopp and Subotic have history, of course; having worked with the defender at Mainz, the German coach brought the defender to Borussia Dortmund and it appears that he could yet work with him on English soil.

With Klopp in charge at Dortmund, Subotic and Mats Hummels enjoyed an extremely successful defensive partnership in the Bundesliga.

However, with Thomas Tuchel now at the helm, Subotic has fallen down the pecking order at the club, but it remains to be seen as to whether Klopp steps up his reported interest in him.

Here's why it could happen

Let's be honest, Klopp was always going to be linked with numerous Borussia Dortmund stars. But there really could be something in this report. Subotic is a frustrated figure right now. Dortmund boss Tuchel has more or less said that himself.

When speaking about the defender's struggle, Tuhcel recently told Bild: "An unusual and difficult situation for him. Neven taking it professionally, but he is obviously not happy."

Subotic has played just one Bundesliga game all season. Still only 26, the defender still has more to give. Time-and-time again in recent years, Klopp has got the best out of him, so it would make an interesting transfer for all involved.

Perhaps, then, this really is one deal the new Liverpool boss could pull off. It looks set to be an interesting period on Merseyside.
