Liverpool fans distraught after Jurgen Klopp's men fall to Newcastle defeat

After a week in which Liverpool were tipped to mount a title challenge, the club's fans were brought right down to earth after a lifeless performance against Newcastle this afternoon at St. James' Park.

The arrival of Jurgen Klopp on Merseyside has prompted a surge in optimism, but a Martin Skrtel own goal burst the bubble.

Things went from bad to worse when Georginio Wijnaldum made it 2-0 late on in the second half, rounding off a fairly awful afternoon for the Reds.

Striker Christian Benteke spurned a good chance in the first half to make it 1-0 as Liverpool tried to haul themselves a step closer to the top four after seeing Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham all drop points yesterday.

While there was some good news for Liverpool fans with Daniel Sturridge continuing his comeback from injury with a substitute appearance in the second half, that was very much the silver lining around a very dark cloud.

You can check out how Liverpool fans reacted to the action this afternoon, as it happened.

Things were made much, much worse when defender Alberto Moreno scored a wonderful equaliser - only to see it ruled out for offside, even though replays showed he was in line with the last man.

It's fair to say that Liverpool fans weren't exactly impressed with what they saw from the referee and his assistant.

Do you think Liverpool need to focus on the top four rather than talking about the title?
