Liverpool fans criticise Joe Allen after Newcastle defeat

Liverpool fans who were unaware of Georginio Wijnaldum will be doing their research tonight. The Dutch international scored at least one goal and possibly another as Newcastle finally got their season underway with a marquee performance against Jurgen Klopp's men.

The Magpies looked a completely different team to the one that was beaten 5-1 by Crystal Palace last weekend. They fought for every ball and were composed in front of goal. The deserved the victory, basically.

Liverpool fans have already taken to Twitter, but they are in no mood to congratulate Newcastle on an impressive victory.

No, instead they have used their 140 characters to criticise the performance of one of their first-team stars, seemingly blaming him for what was Jurgen Klopp's second defeat since taking charge in October.

You know it has to be Joe Allen

Often the source of frustration for the Anfield faithful, the Welshman was once again the target for frustrated fans as they dealt with the realisation that they were not actually as good as Barcelona. After scoring ten goals in their two previous games against Southampton and Manchester City, they could be forgiven for thinking just that.

We actually thought Allen had quite a good game while a number of other stars – who will remain nameless –  fell short of what has come to be expected of them. Still, Allen has taken the bulk of the stick and here we have picked out some of the best.
