Craig Bellamy caused something of a stir amongst Arsenal fans on Twitter towards the end of his Monday Night Football debut last night after claiming Arsene Wenger should play Aaron Ramsey ahead of Mesut Ozil in the number 10 position.
Ozil has arguably been Arsenal’s standout performer this season - scoring four goals and contributing a magnificent 12 assists - but Bellamy admitted he would rather have Ramsey as the team’s central playmaker.
The Welshman believes his compatriot is less effective when deployed in a deeper role or out wide, and feels it would benefit Arsenal more to have the 24-year-old behind the central striker and Ozil on the flanks.

“Aaron wants to get forward but for me has to play in a [attacking midfield] three,” Bellamy told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, per 101 Great Goals. “He has to be in the centre. If you ask him to sit [deep] you restrict a lot of his game.”
“Ozil has played left at certain times,” Bellamy added. “It’s not just me being biased. I have known Aaron since he was five years of age. I would play him central before I would play Ozil.”
Arsenal fans react to Bellamy's comment
Here’s how Arsenal fans reacted to Bellamy’s comment…
Wenger can't move Mesut Ozil now
It’s difficult not to feel that Bellamy was being a little biased with his comment. He said himself that he has known Ramsey since the midfielder was five and it’s no secret that he’s a huge fan of Cardiff City, where Arsenal’s current No. 16 started his career.
However, Ramsey scored 16 goals in 34 appearances during the 2013-14 campaign while playing in a central position and it could be argued that the Wales international is more of a goal threat than his German teammate.
Ozil, though, is the assist king - and it would be madness for Wenger to even consider moving the former Real Madrid star out wide in order to accommodate Ramsey, who is capable of playing in multiple positions for the Gunners.
