Real Madrid duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Arbeloa have hit back at Barcelona defender Gerard Pique after he trolled Rafa Benitez's side for playing an ineligible player during their Copa del Rey clash against Cadiz last week.

The Santiago Bernabeu outfit were expelled from the competition after fielding midfielder Denis Cheryshev, who should have been serving a ban.

During proceedings, Pique took it upon himself to troll Real Madrid on Twitter, producing a number of 'crying' emojis.

Now, though, with Real Madrid appealing the decision, both Ronaldo and Arbeloa have responded to Pique's most recent jibe. In fact, as per, former Liverpool man Arbeloa has suggested that Pique is 'obsessed' with Real Madrid.

"Pique seems obsessed with us," said the defender.

Real response

"I'll see him in a comedy club talking about Madrid. The last 10 years for Barca don't equal Madrid's history."

Ronaldo, on the other hand, has insisted that he doesn't want to give Pique 'free publicity', instead suggesting that it's a waste of time speaking about these things.

The Portuguese superstar stated: "It's not worth talking about, I don't want to give free publicity. "I don't speak about these things because it's a waste of time."

Title battle

After destroying Real Madrid last month, Barcelona appear to be the team to beat in La Liga, but Ronaldo and Co. will still believe they can secure title success this season. Just four points off the Catalans, Benitez's side remain well in the hunt, but it won't be easy for them to overhaul Barcelona at this stage.

With the trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez in sensational form, Luis Enrique's side will take some stopping.
