Luis Enrique described him as ‘spectacular’, Catalan newspaper Sport handed him a 9/10 rating and even the goal Barcelona conceded was due to no fault of his own. Marc-Andre ter Stegen produced a remarkable individual performance against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The 23-year-old, who has been used as Barça’s first-choice goalkeeper in European competition but has only made four La Liga appearances since arriving at the Camp Nou in the summer of 2014, gave Enrique some food for thought with a magnificent display at the BayArena.
Without the Germany international in between the sticks, it’s unlikely Barcelona would have left Leverkusen with a point. (Scroll down this page to watch Ter Stegen’s individual highlights - and check out the best tweets).

“Marc [ter Stegen] was spectacular,” Enrique was quoted as saying by Sport. “He was really safe against a dangerous Bayer side - and also back in Germany, where he is from.”
Despite the German’s heroics, however, Enrique will almost certainly revert back to his first-choice goalkeeper for La Liga matches - Claudio Bravo - when Barcelona take on Deportivo this weekend.
Barcelona must keep Ter Stegen happy
Bravo is a fine ‘keeper in his own right, but Enrique risks pushing Ter Stegen towards the Camp Nou exit door if he continues leaving the hugely-talented shot-stopper on the subs’ bench for league matches.
Liverpool are one of the clubs reportedly interested in signing Ter Stegen if he becomes unhappy with his role at Barcelona - and there’s no doubt a host of other top European clubs would compete for his signature if word got out that the Catalan giants were reluctantly prepared to do business.
