Nathaniel Chalobah, on loan from Chelsea, gave Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri some food for thought on Thursday evening by scoring a wonderful goal in the Europa League.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Italian outfit on a season-long loan deal at the start of September, scored the opening goal in the 5-2 win over Legia Warsaw with a wonderful piece of individual skill and an emphatic finish.

Chalobah produced a stunning first touch to nutmeg his opponent before slamming the ball in off the underside of the crossbar. (Scroll down this page to watch Chalobah’s goal).

It was a wonderful goal from the England Under-21 international, who is yet to appear for Napoli in Serie A.

Chalobah, playing from the left-hand side of central midfield, was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes and set up teammates Dries Mertens for Napoli’s fifth goal in stoppage time.

Chalobah needs more minutes at Napoli

Although Jose Mourinho will have been pleased to see Chalobah in action last night, there’s a good chance the Chelsea manager will be disappointed with the lack of minutes his player has had this season.

The idea was for Chalobah to gain some valuable first-team experience away from Stamford Bridge, before returning to the Blues next summer ready to compete for a place in the first team.

However, perhaps it would have been more beneficial for the versatile midfielder - who can also play in defence - to have joined a club lower down the table in one of Europe’s top leagues.
