Arsenal are set to battle Spanish giants Barcelona for a place in the quarter-final of the Champions League.

After failing to secure top spot in their group, the Gunners were always going to be handed a very tricky knockout fixture. Unsurprisingly, that is exactly what has happened.

It was at the Round of 16 stage that Arsene Wenger and Co. were dumped out of Europe last season and it's going to take something very special for them not to head down the same path in 2016. In fact, Arsenal have been eliminated from the competition at this stage for the past five seasons.

The world-class trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez lie in wait for the north London outfit, who will have to produce two very special performances to preserve their status in the competition.

Following the draw, there has obviously been quite the reaction on social media and it's safe to say that Arsenal fans aren't exactly surprised by the outcome.

Arsenal chance

Do Arsenal really stand a chance of progressing? Well, they will be buoyed by their victory over European giants Bayern Munich earlier on in the campaign, but they will know that they will have to produce the goods in both games against the Catalans.

Of course, after beating Bayern on home soil, Wenger's side were humiliated in Germany, so will have to improve defensively ahead of the meeting with Luis Enrique's team.

It would be foolish to completely rule Arsenal out at this stage, but they will be well aware that there will be no room for error over two legs against the current Champions League holders.
