Xabi Alonso's wondergoal for Bayern Munich in their 1-0 win on Tuesday night was quite something.

The Spaniard scored his first goal of the season with a stunning 35-yard volley to sink Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98 in the DFB-Pokal.

It is arguably one of the best goals of the midfielder's career and left goalkeeper Christian Mathenia with absolutely no chance.

After a corner was cleared the 34-year-old took one touch before unleashing a fierce strike into the top corner.

And fan footage has made its way online that shows just how precise the former Liverpool midfielder's effort was.

Despite sprawling across his line at full stretch, Mathenia was nowhere near the ball as it nestled in the side-netting.

Darmstadt had managed to keep the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller quiet throughout the evening and may have been dreaming of an upset heading to half-time.

Despite having 79 per cent of the ball, the defending Bundesliga champions registered just three shots on target.

It was far from vintage Bayern Munich as they failed to live up to their usual standards on a frustrating night at the Allianz Arena.

Alonso is not known for his goalscoring prowess. The Spaniard has scored just 40 times in a club career that has spanned 645 games.

The former Real Madrid man has found goals increasingly hard to come by in recent season, scoring just 11 since leaving Liverpool in 2009.

He has never been prolific, but he is known for producing top quality finishes, check out ten of his best here.
