Ashley Young stunned by Louis van Gaal snub

Manchester United star Ashley Young has reportedly been left stunned by his recent exclusion from the first-team.

As reported by The Sun, the former Aston Villa winger has had no explanation from Louis van Gaal after the Red Devils chief opted to leave him on the bench for the club's past three outings.

Young has failed to feature despite the fact that United have been without a number of key first-team players. Incredibly, the likes of Nick Powell, Guillermo Varela and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have all been selected ahead of Young recently.

Throughout the course of last season, Young had been in fine form for United, often playing a prominent role in a variety of positions under the Van Gaal regime. However, things have turned sour for him of late and it appears that he has been left completely in the dark.

It's far from certain, then, as to whether the United chief will opt to hand Young a path back into the starting XI, but he certainly won't be getting his hopes up at this stage.

Surely Young has done something to anger his manager. United have been down to their bare bones recently and Young should have been handed an important role.

He has been one of Van Gaal's standout players over the course of the last 18-months and the United chief has relied on him on numerous occasions. It's certainly a strange situation and it will be fascinating to see whether the 30-year-old lines up against Norwich City on Saturday.

One thing is for sure, it looks set to be an interesting period for Young as he goes in search of reclaiming his place in the United side.
