Louis van Gaal was under considerable pressure before Manchester United's home game with Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils had gone five games in all competitions without a win and their style of play had been a cause for much frustration from United supporters.

But their tie with the struggling Canaries was seen as a perfect opportunity to stop the rot. But that could not have been further from the truth as Alex Neil's men stunned Old Trafford to record a famous 2-1 win and leave Van Gaal looking down the barrel.

Despite boasting 69% of the ball, United failed to register a single shot on target until the 69th minute when Anthony Martial pulled a goal back and were jeered off at half-time and full-time, although those disapproving actions were aimed more at the manager than players.

Manchester United looked devoid of ideas throughout the 90 minutes at the Theatre of Dreams and his substitutions, once again, were up for debate.

During the embarrassing defeat, Norwich fans were singing: "Jose Mourinho, he's getting your job."

And, if these Manchester United fans on Twitter are anything to go by, then the Portuguese manager is a popular choice to get the job should Van Gaal be given the chop.

Regardless of how many injuries the Red Devils have, a defeat, in that manner, at home to Norwich is not acceptable.

In every manager's tenure, there are defining moments and this seems like one of those points for the Dutchman.

The powers that be have a huge decision to make and Mourinho has a track record of bringing instant success upon arrival.
