New Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink could make a surprise move for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke in the January transfer window.

This has been reported by Steve Bates of the Sunday People, who has revealed that former Blues manager Jose Mourinho had been looking at the possibility of securing the services of the Belgium international.

However, despite the sacking of Mourinho, Bates has suggested that Hiddink has an interest in the forward as he's well aware that his new club have a lack of options in attack.

Spain international Diego Costa has endured a terrible season, while the duo of Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy have been unable to stamp their mark on the side.

Perhaps, then, that could lead Chelsea to Benteke, who has had his own problems this term. Since signing for the Merseyside outfit in the summer, the former Aston Villa man has failed to really get going.

Benteke struggles

In fact, he's appeared to struggle under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, and the Sunday People claim that the charismatic coach could sanction a transfer for the forward next month.

A move to Stamford Bridge would certainly come as a surprise, but if he's really not up to the task under Klopp, then perhaps it's best for all involved if he departs Anfield sooner rather than later.

Do you really think Benteke could move to Chelsea? Have your say below!
