Toto Wolff has admitted in an interview with Motorsport.com that Mercedes have an interest in signing Max Verstappen in the future, but he insists they will not interfere with his current Red Bull contract.
Verstappen makes his mark in F1
As it stands, the Dutchman is due to stay at the Red Bull sister team Toro Rosso for the immediate future, but he could become a free agent in 2018 if neither team supply him a race winning car.
The youngest driver to ever race in Formula One had a fantastic rookie season, scoring 49 points and finishing 12th in the Drivers Championship despite the constant reliability and power issues he suffered from the Renault power unit.

This gained him respect and huge acclaim throughout the sport from drivers, commentators and teams which resulted in him winning the FIA award for rookie of the year, as well as taking home the action of the year award which is voted for by fans.
Wolff sings his praises
Wolff and Mercedes did try to sign Verstappen for their young driver program back in 2014, but he chose a deal with Red Bull who offered him a Toro Rosso race seat for the 2015 season. If the opportunity arises to add him to the team once again Wolff won't be missing out this time.
"He is a boy to look at, I personally rate him. I like the way the father and son approach things and the way the relationship has tackled his sporting career functions. He definitely has his place in F1".
"He is not a topic for us because he is under a long-term contract with Red Bull".
"If there is one thing with all the controversy in F1 which I will always acknowledge, it is that if you develop a driver into F1 like Red Bull have done and taken risks, then I think that should be honoured".
"We will not interfere in such a relationship. If things come towards us, then good. But if not, not."
The general consensus at this moment in time is if Verstappen is supplied with a competitive car he will become World Champion, it is more a matter of when and not if with this young man.
There has not been such a huge buzz around a new driver since Hamilton burst onto the scene back in 2007. If Verstappen can try and follow his footsteps, there is little doubt the youngster will be a huge success.
