Monday Night Football pundits Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry had the difficult task of naming the best Premier League XI of the 2015-16 season so far - but, in fairness, they’ve selected a pretty decent team.

The XI is comprised of four Arsenal players, three from Leicester City, and one each from Stoke City, Tottenham, Everton and Manchester United.

Jack Butland is selected over the likes of Petr Cech and David de Gea in goal after keeping seven clean sheets for Stoke City so far this season. In front of him are the two Arsenal full-backs - Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal - and a centre-back partnership comprised of United’s Chris Smalling and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.

Everton’s Ross Barkley is in central midfielder alongside the impressive Leicester ace N'Golo Kanté, whose teammate Riyad Mahrez is on the right-hand side of the 4-2-3-1 flanked by Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. No prizes, meanwhile, for guessing who leads the line: record breaker Jamie Vardy.

Honourable mentions?

It could be argued that the likes of Watford’s Odion Ighalo and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku deserved at least an honourable mention, but neither striker deserved to be in the team ahead of Vardy, who has scored 15 Premier League goals already this season.

Carragher and Henry appear to have got it spot on - although we’re sure it’ll still cause plenty of debate in the comments!
