Arsenal appear poised to make FC Basel star Mohamed Elneny their first capture of the January transfer window having agreed terms over a £5million deal.

Agreement in place?

According to the Daily Mail, the Egyptian has consented to his part of the agreement and undergone a medical, making it very possible that he will complete a move to the Emirates Stadium next month.

It’s good news for Arsenal fans on the whole of course. Arsene Wenger looks to have moved swiftly in his bid to replace injured midfield stars Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin and while Elneny isn’t exactly a household name positive movements are being made.

Elneny addition

A midfielder by trade Elneny’s addition is one sure to reinforce an area of the pitch that is concerning many Arsenal supporters, and at a time when a run for the Premier League title looks more viable than ever.

That said, the Mail also claim that Wenger hasn’t yet laid out plans to acquire anyone else. It may be that he believes his squad comfortably sized already, but the Frenchman doesn’t look like he’ll be chasing after names like William Carvalho and Lars Bender this time around.

Title hopefuls

Arsenal themselves travel to Southampton today hoping to leapfrog Leicester City at the top of the table with a win.

The Gunners find themselves favourites for the title after last Monday’s win over Man City, but one gets the feeling they’ll need all the help they can get if they are to stay in pole position.

Arsenal fans, is there anyone you were hoping to see Wenger sign next month? Let us know in the comments box below.
