Jose Mourinho has been offered the chance to replace Rafael Benitez with immediate effect at Real Madrid.
This is according to the Sunday Times, who understand that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is eager to bring the Portuguese coach back to the Bernabeu as a replacement for Benitez as soon as possible.
However, the report adds that Mourinho would prefer a move to Manchester United, amid speculation the Premier League giants are on the brink of parting company with the beleaguered Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal hinted after United’s 2-0 defeat to Stoke City on Boxing Day that he could resign following a catastrophic run of results.
According to the Daily Mail, the veteran Dutch coach is preparing to quit if he fails to prevent United slumping to a fifth consecutive defeat against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday.
This would spare Manchester United the embarrassment of sacking a second coach in the space of less than two years - David Moyes was dismissed just 10 months into his five-year contract back in April 2014 - and save them having to hand the 64-year-old a substantial compensation payment.
Jose Mourinho favours Man United job
Mourinho has long-craved the opportunity to manage Manchester United, who would provide the 52-year-old with a fresh chance in management after being unceremoniously sacked by Chelsea earlier this month.
Rafael Benitez has lost dressing room at Real Madrid
But he may feel that he has unfinished business at Real Madrid after leaving the Bernabeu under a cloud back in the summer of 2013.
It was reported last week - by Spanish newspaper Marca - that Benitez has lost the dressing room at Real Madrid and could lose his job before the club’s next match against Real Sociedad on Wednesday, despite the 10-2 demolition of Rayo Vallecano last week.
But Real Madrid might need to look elsewhere for a replacement if United sack Van Gaal after the match against Chelsea on Monday evening.
