Randy Orton, Dolph Ziggler and the WWE's most underwhelming stars of 2015

While some stars such as Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens enjoyed a successful 2015, there have been a handful that haven’t managed to reach the same level of success.

With so many injuries taking place throughout the year some stars would have looked to show what they can do when given the opportunity. Unfortunately, nobody stepped up to the mark despite the talent available.

It’s not necessarily their fault as booking and opportunities to play a part, but here are the stars I believe were the most underwhelming in 2015 and will be looking to improve next year.

There was a lot of promise with King Barrett earlier this year especially as his Bad News gimmick was still going strong and he could have been in a top position right now. But it was bad news for Barrett as he was chosen to win the King of the Ring and that tournament win backfired for him.

You’d think that a historic win would help him be a success as a main event star, but that hasn’t happened and he’s picked up many losses this year that really hindered his character development.

The potential was there, and opportunities should have been given, we know how talented Barrett is but he’s had another underwhelming 2015 and the way things are going with the League of Nations and his neck injury, it doesn’t look like the situation will change anytime soon.

Dolph Ziggler is a superstar who is loved by the WWE Universe, and they’ve been begging for a push he deserves for too long now. Unfortunately, nothing of that sort has happened, and it doesn’t look like happening either.

With all of the injuries taking place you’d think somebody as reliable as Ziggler in the ring as well as being well-liked by the WWE Universe, he would be given a chance to show what he can do, but he too has been misused.

We know the talent is there but the fact he’s been in boring feuds and pointless segments is beginning to make the WWE fans lose faith in him and whether he can ever reach the top again.

I would say Randy Orton has been the most underwhelming, boring and least relevant ‘big’ star in the company in 2015. Sometimes he’s on vacation; sometimes he’s injured and when he is competing it’s usually in a never-ending saga against Sheamus.

Obviously, Orton is injured right now which isn’t his fault but he should have been a huge star for the company this year because we know that’s where he belongs and that’s what he’s capable of. He’s allowed mid card talent to overtake him which isn’t good for Orton, the only memorable moment we will remember this year is his RKO on Rollins at WrestleMania.

He’s been in the big-name feuds, yet he hasn’t done anything extraordinary, it’s almost as if he’s been eased out because at times you forget he’s even part of the company. Hopefully, The Viper can recover soon and have a successful 2016 and come back to his best.

Ryback is a superstar who will probably never capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship; he should have in 2012 when he was feuding with CM Punk, but I feel that after an underwhelming 2015 his time will not come.

He hasn’t shown improvement on the microphone as you can’t get a solid promo out of him, just a few catchphrases that get the crowd pumped up. His in-ring work hasn’t changed much to ‘wow’ the fans while his feuds have been quite boring.

He did have success by capturing the Intercontinental Championship, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is what he does as champion and he did very little to go down as a successful champion, it hasn’t been a great year for The Big Guy.

The Wyatt Family are a tricky bunch because they haven’t done anything wrong this year. They’ve had some good matches, they’ve brought the excitement and dominance in the form of Braun Strowman, and we know that their promo work is excellent thanks to Bray Wyatt.

However, you can blame the WWE for their awful year because they can’t seem to pick up a big win no matter how hard they try. Bray and the gang are fantastic at talking the talk but when it comes down to business they always seem to crumble in the big matches.

Feuds with Roman Reigns as well as the Brothers of Destruction would have been huge for them if they had won, but it’s become a worrying trend now that they aren’t able to back their words up, and fans can’t take them seriously anymore.

There’s a chance Wyatt could have a good start to the year in the Rumble but most of all he needs a win at WrestleMania.
