Adnan Januzaj's loan exit to Borussia Dortmund last summer is a decision that many Manchester United fans are still struggling to understand.

Maybe that is why many of them were getting excited about his apparent return to Old Trafford following his unexpected appearance in the home dugout during Monday's game against Chelsea.

Rumours began circulating during the 0-0 draw that Januzaj was sitting amongst the substitute's during the game; later confirmed by photographic evidence. The Sun took the opportunity to theorise that his season-long deal with the German outfit was set to end early.

Of course, that is almost certainly not the case. The Bundesliga is currently enjoying its annual Christmas break and Januzaj probably saw it as a good chance to catch up with the friends he left behind. On the other hand, Louis van Gaal may have ordered him back.

According to fans on Twitter, it seems that most fans would be happy to welcome the Belgium international back into the squad, with many theorising that he can help end their woes in front of goal.

Manchester United have failed to win any of their last eight games in all competitions and have scored just ten goals in their last 13. That is mainly down to the poor form of Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney, all of whom play in positions that Januzaj has experience in.

False prophet

Where the perception that Januzaj can fix their problems has come from is anyone's guess. The 20-year-old has yet to score for Thomas Tuchel's side and has failed to even start a Bundesliga match.

His bit-part role in the squad is certainly not was expected when he left Manchester and, if anything, he will only be further away from Louis van Gaal's squad if and when he returns.
