Cristiano Ronaldo fans argue that what makes the Portuguese superstar a better player than Lionel Messi is the ‘fact’ he is more complete.
The Real Madrid icon can do many of the same things Messi can - dribble at speed, score goals, win matches almost single-handedly and so on - but he can also score from range, is better in the air and has proven himself in both La Liga and the Premier League.
But Brazilian legend Ronaldo is not convinced that his namesake is the more complete player at all. In fact, he believes Messi is the more well-rounded footballer - and has tipped the Barcelona maestro to win a record-breaking fifth Ballon d’Or next month.

"I choose Messi," Ronaldo told Clarin - per ESPN - earlier this week. "I see Messi [as] more complete. He does things in a most spectacular way."
It could be argued that while Messi isn’t as good as Ronaldo in the air and is a little less powerful, the Argentina international can control matches in a way his old rival simply isn’t capable.
Ronaldo is right: Messi is more complete than CR7
Ronaldo, these days, is a goal machine - and arguably little more. Whereas Messi still dictates the tempo of matches - big matches - and can carve teams open with his magnificent passing.
Messi is known as being the best attacking player on the planet, but the 28-year-old also deserves more credit for his fabulous awareness and passing ability. No other player, right now, comes close to Barcelona’s No. 10 in terms of picking out teammates with stunning passes.
It also seems that Ronaldo is becoming less decisive in the most important matches.
Of the 23 goals he has scored this season, it could be argued that his only goals against a so-called big team were the five he bagged over two matches against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.
The rest have come against the likes of Malmo, Espanyol, Eibar and Getafe.
