It could have been 58 goals for the calendar year had the former Manchester United man not horribly blazed a penalty over the bar during the win over Sociedad; the first time he had missed the target from the spot in his Madrid career.

However, that does not detract from his achievements, and his second goal of the afternoon was arguably one of his best of 2015 as he produced a first-time volley directly from a Marcelo corner.

11 of Ronaldo's goals came from the penalty spot. He also recorded eight hat-tricks, including two occasions when he hit five in a game; the unlucky opponents being Granada and Espanyol.

He has been as prolific as they come since making the switch to Real Madrid in 2009 and his position as the club's all-time record goalscorer is testament to that.

But there were still some pretty impressive strikes. So here are five of his best goals from 2015.
