Romelu Lukaku is on Manchester United's radar for January window

The Mirror are carrying a story this morning about Manchester United's transfer plans and their intention to spend big in the January window.

The article focuses on the club's plans to splash the cash in order to make up for their disastrous form over the past two months, which has heaped the pressure on boss Louis van Gaal.

There's an interesting nugget of information that's buried away down in the middle of the story which will interest Manchester United fans - Everton ace Romelu Lukaku is on Van Gaal's transfer hitlist.

The former Chelsea man has been in inspired form this term with 15 goals already and is said to be on Manchester United's 'radar', along with his team-mate John Stones.

A major part of the Red Devils' struggles this season is their inability to score goals - they've managed just 22 strikes this term with half of the season gone.

With that in mind it seems likely that landing a goalscorer will be top of Van Gaal's priority list - however signing Lukaku will be a hard task. The Belgian signed a five year contract when he moved to Everton back in 2014 - and Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is adamant he won't be sold, regardless of the offer.

"We're under no illusions that everyone would love to have a Romelu Lukaku in their squad and that's why we made such a big investment in him," he said.

Stones, who was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea over the summer, is also unlikely to move midway through the season and Everton are looking to tie the England international down to a new long-term contract.

Do you think Manchester United are wasting their time by chasing Lukaku?
