Lionel Messi nutmegs Luis Suarez in training

Every player in the Barcelona squad would say it’s a joy to play with Lionel Messi - but training with the world’s best player must be a different story at times.

Just ask Luis Suarez, who has become Messi’s latest victim out on the training ground.

The Uruguay international thought he was safe after sharing a joke with Messi over a photo shown to them by the club photographer, only for the four-time Ballon d’Or winner to put the ball through his legs with a brilliant touch with the outside of his magical left boot. Suarez, a master of the nutmeg himself, tried his best to close his legs in time to avoid embarrassment but it was too late.

Messi had claimed his first victim of 2016.

Messi has some catching up to do...

However, the Argentine genius has some catching up to do if he’s to finish the season as Barcelona’s top goalscorer.

Messi only has six goals in 11 league appearances this season - he missed two months of the campaign after suffering a knee injury against Las Palmas in September - and subsequently finds himself nine behind Suarez and eight behind Neymar.

One suspects, however, that Messi won’t mind if he doesn’t finish the season as the Catalan giants’ top scorer if he wins more silverware this term.

The 28-year-old is the overwhelming favourite to win a record-breaking fifth Ballon d’Or this month while there’s a realistic possibility that Barcelona could finish the season with yet another treble.
