Football News

The football world can not stop talking about Zinedine Zidane. The French legend, widely considered to be one of the most talented and elegant players of all time, is back in football's mainstream.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez terminated the contract of Rafa Benitez just seven months after hiring him following a less than impressive first half of the season.

Instead of turning to the out-of-work Jose Mourinho or begging Carlo Ancelotti to return, Perez has instead let his heart rule, handing the reigns to club legend Zidane in what represents his first proper job in football management.

It is a huge step to take and not everyone appears convinced. Indeed, some fans have already suggested that he won't last much longer than his predecessor. But someone rather prominent has given him their full backing. Who? You already know.

David Beckham told his 18million Instagram followers that he believes Zidane is, in his own words, 'THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB'. Yes, he did the capital letters, not us.

The message

The full post, which accumulated 160,000 likes within an hour, read like a love letter towards his former Real Madrid team-mate.

He said: "Does it get any better than this ?? A man that has been the best at a game we all love, taking over of a club that myself and many more people love... Someone with drive, passion and also doesn't accept failure on any level.. Taking over from a manager that has huge experience and respect in the game, but taking on a position that he will relish ... THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB"

And here it is

Zidane's promise

Zidane himself addressed reporters at the same press conference in which Benitez's departure was only briefly mentioned as a prelude to this mega announcement. In it, he promised to give him very best to turn Real Madrid's season around.

He said: "I am going to put my heart and soul into this job so that everything works out well."
