Louis van Gaal rejects AC Milan loan bid for Marouane Fellaini

Louis van Gaal has rejected the chance to send Marouane Fellaini on loan to AC Milan for the remainder of the 2015-16 campaign and some Manchester United fans on Twitter have voiced their dissatisfaction.

The Independent understand that Van Gaal rejected Milan’s bid because United are currently short on attacking options, following the departures of Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and Javier Hernandez.

Fellaini has been used as a makeshift striker by Van Gaal on multiple occasions since the Dutch coach arrived at Old Trafford 18 months ago and will not be heading anywhere between now and 1 February, when the winter transfer window closes.

Fellaini has struggled for minutes this season - the Belgium international has only completed 90 minutes in the Premier League on three occasions so far this term - and has failed to convince most Manchester United supporters of his quality since arriving in a £27.5 million deal from Everton two-and-a-half years ago.

But Van Gaal regards the 28-year-old as a useful squad player due to his versatility. Fellaini can play in central midfield, as a No. 10 and even as an auxiliary centre-forward when required.

These United fans want Fellaini gone

United fans, however, are less-than-enthused by the news Van Gaal has decided to keep the 6ft 4in midfielder at Old Trafford. Check out some of these tweets.

Fellaini is not good enough for Man Utd

Fellaini simply doesn’t possess the technical ability to hold down a regular first-team place at one of the world’s biggest football clubs.

Manchester United supporters have been used to watching the likes of Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick showcase their quality in central midfield over the past couple of decades - but Fellaini falls a long way short of that level.
