Luis Enrique rejects chance to sign Pedro on loan

Nobody could blame Pedro for swapping Barcelona for Chelsea last summer - but the Spaniard could be forgiven if he had a few regrets about the move five months down the line.

The 28-year-old loved Barcelona but made the tough decision to leave the Camp Nou because he was frustrated with his lack of game time. He wanted to start matches - instead of playing second-fiddle to Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez - so accepted the call from Jose Mourinho back in August.

Chelsea have endured a catastrophic first half of the season and Mourinho has now gone, while Barcelona were crowned world champions last month. Pedro is beginning to wonder whether he’s made a huge mistake and who can blame him?

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Pedro has been regretting his move to Stamford Bridge for several weeks now.

Chelsea would reportedly be willing to send the versatile winger back to Barcelona on loan until the end of the season - which, if true, says a lot about how much Guus Hiddink thinks of him - but Luis Enrique doesn’t want to bring him back. Ouch.

Enrique wants Nolito instead

Enrique considers Pedro as part of the past and has rejected the opportunity to re-sign the player, even on a temporary basis.

Instead, the Barcelona boss wants to sign Celta Vigo’s Nolito, one of the stars of La Liga this season.

Or Denis Suarez...

Failing that, Enrique could move for Villarreal attacking midfielder Denis Suarez, as Barcelona have a buy-back option on the 21-year-old.

As for Pedro, well, it seems he’s stuck at Chelsea.
