Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted there is one thing about Lionel Messi that he envies: the Barcelona superstar’s left foot.

Speaking at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich, it all threatened to get a bit awkward when Messi and Ronaldo were asked if there was one quality or attribute their rival possesses that they envy.

Messi batted away the question, describing envy as a “negative trait”, but Ronaldo surprisingly admitted he would love to have Messi’s magical left foot.

"I'd like to have his left foot,” Ronaldo admitted, according to the Mirror. “His left foot's a little better than mine.”

This was after Messi, per Miguel Delaney, told the audience: "I don't feel envy. That's a negative trait. I like Cristiano. I am the way I am. He is the way he is."

Neymar: I would have both their feet!

Neymar made both players - and the audience - laugh by saying he would have Messi’s left foot and Ronaldo’s right.

The Brazilian superstar couldn’t stop eulogising over Messi, admitting the Argentina international was his “idol”. But saying he would take Ronaldo’s right foot was a fantastic way to cut the tension inside the room.

Messi set for fifth Ballon d'Or

Messi is expected to win the Ballon d’Or for a record-breaking fifth time this evening following another fantastic calendar year with Barcelona.
