Wendell Lira has earned the Puskas Award for best goal of the year, for his sensational strike against Aletico-Go - which you can watch below.

The talented Brazilian beat the duo of Lionel Messi and Alessandro Florenzi to the award.

The goal really was sensational; Lira finished off a fine move with a stunning overhead kick and the strike has now been voted as the best of 2015.

It must be noted, of course, that Messi's goal was quite special; the Barcelona ace embarked on a mazy run from near the halfway line, before taking on four defenders and rocketing his shot into the bottom corner of the net beyond the grasp of the goalkeeper.

Florenzi's wasn't bad either as he was able to lob Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter-Stegen from 50 yards out for Roma the Champions League - did we mention he was pinned against the touchline too? You can also check out both goals below.

Messi enjoyed a stunning 2015, helping Barcelona win no less than five trophies including a historic treble that featured a Champions League final victory against Juventus.

He'll be hoping to round off a year to remember with a record fifth Ballon d'Or victory later this evening. Messi is the heavy favourite to win in Switzerland, having been nominated against team-mate Neymar and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.
