Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has revealed that he is looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window.
Despite boasting an attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, Enrique still feels the squad need more depth along the frontline as the club go in search of a historic quadruple.
The trident managed a remarkable 122 goals in all competitions between them last season and they have already notched 62 during this campaign.
But Enrique, who has been in charge at the Nou Camp since May 2014, feels that if the club are able to strengthen in the January transfer window, it must be in attack.
“If any reinforcements are to come then I believe that right now we need to reinforce the attack,” said Luis Enrique.
Barcelona sit in second in La Liga - two points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid with a game in hand - while they are through to the last-16 of the Champions League. The Catalans are also 4-1 up after the first-leg in the last-16 of their Copa del Rey tie against Espanyol.
In December the club won the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, after beating River Plate 3-0 in the final.
But despite having the desire to do business in January, Enrique admits it may not be easy.
“In order for reinforcements to arrive, we’ve got to negotiate and these are always difficult,” he said.
“It’s not easy for a team to let important players leave halfway through the season, in the winter window.”
In 2014, Barcelona were hit with a transfer ban preventing them from signing players but since the end of the ban the club have added both Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan to their squad.
But Enrique is keen to bolster his ranks even further and it’s believed that Barca are interested in re-signing Denis Suarez who they sold to Villarreal in the summer. The club included a buy-back clause of around £2.2 million but they are only able utilise this in July.
