Liverpool and Arsenal both score twice in first half at Anfield - and fans can't believe it

Some may have been expecting a tight, cagey affair between two top teams when Arsenal travelled to Liverpool tonight. It seems that neither Arsene Wenger or Jurgen Klopp got the memo.

Both teams have plenty to play for this season and after a hectic Christmas schedule, they would have been excused for sitting deep and settling for a point.

However, Roberto Firmino started the fire by putting Liverpool ahead early on, before Aaron Ramsey levelled things up to cap off an eventful start on Merseyside.

The Brazilian, who before tonight had managed just one goal all season, bagged his second of the night with just 19 minutes on the clock. Somehow, he even had time to squeeze in a booking in between his goals. Even James Milner was playing well and teed up Firmino for his goal - not too shabby, eh?

Quite literally, in the course of writing this story about how crazy the start has been, Arsenal have equalised! Olivier Giroud has tucked home from a corner after 25 minutes - just what on earth is going on?! Now he's missed a sitter - unreal!

Of course this electric start to the game this evening caused one hell of a stir amongst the club's fans - and you can check out the best of the immediate reaction below.

Arsenal are in with a chance of ending the evening at the top of the table once more, however they have plenty of work to do in order to see off a spirited Liverpool side that seem to raise their game against the big boys having already beaten Chelsea and Manchester City this season.

Liverpool meanwhile are hoping to close the gap on the top four, having fallen six points behind Tottenham who currently occupy the last Champions League qualifier spot.

If you support either Liverpool or Arsenal - do yourself a favour and make sure you are in front of a screen for the second half.

Who will end up winning the game between Arsenal and Liverpool?
