Dele Alli has a new contract to keep him at Tottenham until 2021 and is a signal of intent from the north London club that they - not unlike their prized possession - are aiming for big things in the future.

Alli has attracted his fair share of suitors this season after his terrific rise from League One youngster to Premier League star has added a hefty sum to the England player's price tag.

The deal will see Alli extend his contract for a further five years and means Tottenham can rest easy knowing the 19-year-old is theirs for the foreseeable future, showing the club have ambitious plans to match the former MK Dons midfielder's personal goals.

Mauricio Pochettino has Spurs flying high in fourth position and the ambitious Argentine looks to have convinced his young side that they are well in the hunt for the title. An attitude that may well have played a huge part in Alli extending his deal.

The extension itself encapsulates the ethos that Tottenham are aiming to build on at the moment as Dele Alli, like his teammates, is hoping to aim even higher - with his eyes set on becoming an integral part of Roy Hodgson's England plans in the summer.

Alli made his England debut in October against Estonia in the Euro 16 qualifying campaign and capped his meteoric rise to prominence for his country with his first senior goal a month later in a 2-0 win against France.

Five goals in 19 league appearances this season has helped to push Pochettino's side into serious contenders for a Champions League spot and the confidence bred through Alli has reflected in the Spurs team sitting comfortably in fourth position.

Previously Spurs have been criticised for a lack of striking options brought in during the transfer window, however, the confidence in youth and a sense of self-belief has inspired all of Spurs' attacking players to get amongst the goals. The deal to keep him at the side for such a lengthy period will almost feel like a new signing and is certain to boost confidence at White Hart Lane.
