Chelsea star Willian has admitted that he is looking to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge in the near future, telling The Sun ‘the club knows exactly how I feel.’
The Brazilian has been arguably the Blues’ best player in a season of tumultuous uncertainty, netting eight goals in all competitions.
Impressing at Chelsea
His stock at Stamford Bridge has risen as a result and, though his current deal doesn’t expire until 2018, talk of an extension is on the cards.
If that’s the case then Willian has left his club in little doubt over where he stands on the matter. He won’t be trying to force anything, but he certainly wants to put pen to paper.
From the outside looking in it would seem that it might be best for Chelsea if they hold fire on dishing out new deals and committing to lengthy agreements.
Since Guus Hiddink is only interim boss it makes sense to assume a replacement will be appointed in January - just who that replacement is remains to be seen.
One thing’s for sure though, the man Roman Abramovich puts in charge is going to have his own ideas and ambitions and will likely only make decisions on players he likes after having been with the squad himself.
With Willian’s contract still having two years left to run there’s no immediate hurry or pressing need to get him to agree to a new one. Patience, in this instance, would be a wise virtue to consider.
Chelsea fans, would you hand Willian a new deal? Let us know your thoughts on the matter.
