Phil Jones was one of several injured Manchester United players who were in the away end at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Carrick and Marcos Rojo were also in attendance to witness Wayne Rooney secure all three points for the Red Devils with his second-half winner.

After the match, Jones was filmed - per The Sun - in with the away fans as they belted out a rendition of “Jonesy 1 Gerrard 0” - a reference to the fact Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard failed to win the Premier League title during his time at Anfield.

After the match, Jones tweeted: “Our Fans are the best! Buzzing! #AwayDays #MUFC 😄⚽️”

He accompanied the tweet with a fantastic video of him euphorically celebrating with fans in the away end when Rooney struck the winning goal.

2016: Phil Jones' year?

Manchester United fans loved the fact that three of their players were prepared to watch the game in amongst the fans - a sight very really seen these days - and praised the trio on social media.

Jones has divided opinion amongst fans for a couple of years now because of his checkered injury record but no doubt this will have helped boost his popularity.

The 23-year-old still has the potential to become a key player for Manchester United but must stay fit and improve his concentration levels.

Chris Smalling managed to do it during 2015 - and perhaps 2016 can by Jones’s year.
