Brendan Rodgers confirms Liverpool wanted to sign Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez may have taken to English football like a duck to water, but Arsenal fans might not know how lucky they are to have him. Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed he was intent on signing the Chile international as Luis Suarez’s replacement, only to be left struggling for options when Sanchez chose Arsenal. He hailed the forward as a like-for-like option for Suarez, who, of course, the Gunners had tried to sign before as well. Elsewhere, Arsene Wenger has described the weekend’s draw with Stoke City as an ‘old-fashioned Stoke battle.’ The Gunners were unable to break the deadlock in a game that finished 0-0, but it was a tightly contested affair at the Britannia Stadium.
